Two for-sale app users robbed at gunpoint in Vallejo

Two Napa residents were left stranded in a Vallejo park Sunday evening, after they were robbed at gunpoint at a meeting arranged through a buy/sell phone app, Vallejo Police Department Lt. Kent Tribble said.
“We used to get these crimes happening to people who used Craigslist, but this was an app called OfferUp,” he said. “Someone from Napa advertised an iPhone for sale, and someone from Vallejo responded and asked to meet them at Richardson Park.”
The Napa resident and a friend arrived at the designated meeting spot just after 5 p.m., and were shortly thereafter approached by two black men in black hooded sweatshirts, Tribble said.
“One of the men had a gun, and threatened to shoot the victims if they didn’t hand over their car keys, wallets and phones,” he said. “The suspects fled the area with the items, heading eastbound through the park.”
The victims found someone else at the park, borrowed a phone and called police, he said.
No one was hurt, Tribble said.
“I’m always amazed when someone agrees to meet anyone, anyplace besides at the Police Department,” he said. “We have a 20-minute spot in front of the department that was created so people can do their Craigslist or custody transfer business in a safe place.”
